What can a photograph tell us?
Looking at a single portrait can often tell us something about a person, however a photograph will always be two-dimensional. You can only see the surface of reality not all of it, you cannot see the complexity of people, because they have more than one layer and a photograph doesn’t. The different layers to a person cannot always be seen through a single image. For this photographic project I found various people through Instagram and asked them to model for me in a studio. While photographing I spoke to my models and found that most of them are going through significant changes in their lives, of which I have chosen not to specify. After taking each image I discovered that when taken out of context the life altering changes that most were going through seemed to drift away when in front of the lens. This project represents how it is not possible to interpret a person’s life through a single image, and that not everything can be seen through a camera.
